am devising a exercise set which i will religiously follow from tonight onwards! day and night :) hopefully will help tone my muscle groups up nicely before sundown and reduce chances of cramps :) must increase the strength and flexibility of my core muscle groups i think it really aids running.

anyway while random online researching on which exercises to incorporate into my masterplan i did dig up useful stuff. like how more researchers are starting to suspect that stretching before a run actually weakens the muscles! esp for hamstring and calves. i've suspected this for quite some time already actually. stretching cold muscles is a bad bad idea. best way to warm up for a run is to do a slow jog to warm the whole body up :) or well SAF's dynamic stretching might help too im not sure.

and yeah the long known fact about fat-losing: its totally IMPOSSIBLE to lose fat in any particular area no matter how hard you work on that area :p doing thousands of crunches will only build up abs muscles while not slimming your waist down! only way to lose fat is to lose fat as a whole : aka full body workout sessions which make you sweat and stuff. but correct exercises WILL tone your muscle groups which will then in turn make them appear slimmer. hmmm still works i guess haha :)

i need to find out why my soles always cramp! esp the arch of the feet. its like they're permenantly on "cramp" mode even when im not exercising. for normal activities they're fine but if i purposely stretch the arch of my feet they cramp up immediately >< the cramps worsen after a long run, and worst thing is that its permanent its been like that for ages ><

wasnt the most ideal preparations before the race (monsoon season just screws up all your planned runs) but hey not too bad la i think. next race i hope to finish below 4:30 (= originally thought i might be able to do it at stan chart hehe. first 20km was done at a sub 4 pace and i didnt feel like i was overly exerting or anything. but cramps hit at around 26-27. same old story! but its getting better though cramps are hitting later and later. maybe next race will only be at 30+km :)

supporters along the way was much much better compared to sundown (unearthly hours) and north face (less trodden paths). both official supporters and the public were out in full force. appreciated it especially along the ECP route where it's the most boring haha. some japanese guys really helped motivate me. and that ang moh with his "this is a no walking zone" sign. damn funny (=

full marathoners finished together with the 21km and 10km runners at the final few km. not the most ideal cause of the insane crowd size - overtaking is barely possible. and thats the part which usually i overtake the most ppl! bleaghz >< saw some guy who pushed a wheelchair along for 42km. amazing. saw a 1 armed runner. saw runners in all shapes and sizes. its quite a carnival haha especially at the finishing line.
overall ranked 1573th (1101th in singapore). not too shabby! next year will definitely try to be better :)

experience really helps with it comes to marathon running. preparations before the race, pre race planning, getting there early to avoid the crowd, finding more comfortable toilets before the race (other than the portable ones provided - went to fairmont hotel's one =p ), psyching myself up, motivating myself after 30+km, and changing up in a comfortable toilet after the race (esplanade's one). all these minor minor details add up to alot! to running your best race and to your personal comfort haha. next race i wanna be at the starting line even earlier! dont want so many ppl blocking me ><

sundown open to registration already :) they changed the starting location to Changi exhibition centre. smart move haha. this year's super traffic jam at changi v taught them a lesson i guess. especially since next year's sundown will have the 21km run as well so probably means another 10 thousand more runners or something.

i realised i might have influenced ppl around me to run. dont think they'll admit to it (its a very personal thing anyway) but it cant be mere coincidences haha. firstly was definitely nicholas, and its purely by chance on my part. kenneth couldnt run this year's sundown so i asked nicholas if he wanted to take over and he did - and ran sub 5 without much training -.- and next year he's gonna go for BDM 102! omg haha.
and then persuaded jason to sign up for new balance run with me (however much he complains and whines i bet he enjoyed the experience), and two of us (and henry i think) probably had much influence on steve to make him go running (and losing like what 9kg in the process? amazing). and my sister ran great eastern (total non runner in the past serious), eugene ran his first marathon, and now willy's asking me about sundown registration for next year!

haha and whats more some (most) of these ppl are those that go "crazy ah you" when i used to talk to them about running :p my dad also o.O he went for stan chart to take photos and i was talking alot about the race at home asking him to run also and then he just went "maybe next year go and walk 10km la". WOW haha o.O

its been like so many months but i still rmb how i felt when i decided to take up running. and i bet its the same for all these ppl. that feeling of "hmm maybe i can do it. it'd be a very good experience huh. at least go and try and walk and finish haha"
its a feeling of wanting to be part of that crowd that can say they finished a race, so even though they say "crazy ah you", deep down inside they really dont mind having a go :p just that singaporeans have this inertial mentality so its difficult to start haha

there see i was right. henry came up and say nice things over his handball incident. he supports a replay of the match but i dont think for one moment anyone actually believed fifa would allow a replay. so whatever he says doesnt matter - whether its just PR stuff or its sincere it will only affect his own conscience. ppl around the world will still believe whatever they want to believe and hate whoever they want to hate.

i think his old boss arsene wenger summed it up really well for him. no matter what the situation turned out to be henry would have been the biggest loser from it. no matter what he chose to do at that point, after the incident either he's crazy for owning up, or he's a cheat for not owning up. ouch haha.

jobless! but not feeling the pressure of finding a job yet. hopefully its not procrastination! i mean.. i do enjoy the feeling of have no responsibilities and nothing in particular to do, not having to wake up early etc. but i am doing some well deserved resting and setting my personal life in order! haha i hope :p

finished reading frank close's nothing book. this is the second time i borrowed it. im going to borrow it again when the library has it! i rmb first time reading it i was pretty much LOST. second time now... hm much better! now a little less clueless about the field of theoretical physics so i understood the book much better this time :) yay haha will see what a third read can bring me.

din manage to read a briefer history of time had to return it coz it was due >< but borrowed how to build a time machine by paul davies and finished. wahaha think its the fastest i ever finished a science book. its rather easy to read coz its completely written for anybody even he/she does not have any science background. and its pretty interesting i think (or at least as interesting as the topic allows it haha) but din learn much from it ba. just some wistful thinking and far-fetched imagination of physicists. still the principles were thought provoking to say the least :) might re read it before returning.

thierry henry is a CHEAT. there i said it. got it off my chest. feels good.
hmm facts first. he handled a ball close to goal. twice. ref plus assistant ref did not spot it so he pass to gallas who scored and in the process france progressed into the world cup at the expense of ireland.

there seem to be two major camps of arguments regarding this issue and i cant fathom out WHY. first group of ppl (mostly french probably. maybe a couple of self-smug ppl) say he didnt have a CHOICE. its world cup at stake and since ref din do anything he played on.

second camp called him a cheat. and a few other more offensive terms i think.

but i dont get it. i thought it was so obvious theres nothing to debate. yes he did something "wrong" and got away with it, he didnt have MUCH of a choice, oh and yes he definitely IS a cheat. C'mon la no two ways about it right. the only argument that can stand here is HOW MUCH of a blame should be pointed at him. look at the choice he had in that split second when the ball arrived. slow motion replays suggest he handled it twice - first might be arguably accidental, second i doubt it. but we're not in a position to judge him or his integrity (yes i am trying to be fair. my heart and instinct tells me first was accidental maybe but second was BLATANT)
so lets assume it was accidental.
CHOICES
1. do what his coach, team, and most of his countrymen would expect of him. play to the ref's whistle. and since ref din blow for foul, play on and get the goal
2. be honest. stop the play and own up.

CONSEQUENCES
1. his actions result in a goal for his country and saved them from potential epic embarrassment. his country qualify for the world cup at the expense of another country. his reputation as one of the finest strikers of the game would be tarnished forever. his name, when ppl rmb him after he retires, will forever be branded along with the word cheat.

2. look stupid during the game. get hated by everyone from his team and country. might cost his country world cup qualification. and gain the respect of a global sporting community.

sure i mean in the immediate aftermath there are two possible outcomes
1. france qualify anyway.
in this case henry will forever be remembered as one of the game's true gentleman. an honest professional who wouldnt compromise his integrity for results. this would be a perfect scenario

2. france fail to qualify
in this case henry would be branded as stupid, naive, a liability, childish, the main culprit behind france's failure to qualify (not fair. i know). his countrymen might hate him for several years after

so he DID have a choice. neither are very pleasant choices. in all fairness sitting down typing this, Im not sure which choice i would have picked so i cannot blame him for making his decision THEN.
what amuses me is how some ppl brand him a cheat and how others try to absolve him of all blame. so i thought i'll make this clear. yes he didnt have much of a choice and yes, in a way he did "cheat" to get a goal. HE CHOSE what he wanted to do. nobody forced him. yes, circumstances put him in a very difficult moment. reminds me of macbeth and how life/fate put him into difficult predicament with temptations. SAME SITUATION. they both chose so they both have to live with the consequences.

for henry it'll mean he helped his country in qualification. and it means he'll be a cheat forever. and i've not even started on the "lets spare a thought for the brave irish team who outfought the french in every department on the pitch"
i doubt henry took that into consideration at that point.

what truely PISSED me off was his behavior afterward. he admitted to the handball.... and cleanly pushed all the blame to the ref. claimed to have told the ref. and insisted that since he's not the ref he played on and helped to get the goal.
WTF.
least he could do was to apologise? take some blame? spare a thought for his opponents? yes true according to RULES he didnt break any since on the pitch the only rule applicable would be to play to the ref's whistle. but he didnt even have the guts to apologise to the irish fans. and to make things worse he put the blame squarely on the ref. -.- so when decisions go against he him complained about the ref. and when decisions go for him he decides that its the ref's fault anyway. bravo.

sport doesnt build character. it reveals character. these are moments which reveal everything about a player's character. because these are moments where there's high stress on them, where they have little time to think, and when their publicity team/agents are not there to advice them on what to say.
i bet give it some time henry will come out and say something "nicer" then what he said in the post match interview. coz thats when his publicity team or some official from somewhere would have advised him on how to handle the situation.

the sheer hypocrisy of the him. and he was one of those who advocated fair play, and slammed diving in the game just a few years back. look who's talking now cheat.

and yes i do feel for the irish. the implications of this is far, far more than just world cup qualification alone.

slightly over 20 days to standard chartered. new balance real run was a good prelude to it. at least it gives me the confidence that i can do 15km with no problem at all. now just gotta do maybe a couple of 20km+ runs and hopefully i'll be ready for my first stand chart (=

ORD LO! officially on 10th November 2009. went back to camp around lunchtime with old chang kee and piekia as ord treat for platoon 4. collected pink IC from jerry and left by 2. as a free man. (=

cant put into words how i feel. mostly happy, a little irrationally high, extremely accomplished, very excited about the future, and also a little lost about whats next. oh wells! take a little break first then start worrying about other things :)

finisher of 50km! ^^ North Face 100 was my most punishing race ever definitely. took over cher coz he had exams, ran with kelvin er. we met really really early (the 100km ppl started even earlier!). was initially worried about not having race id tag but they werent that strict about it thankfully. shouldnt have brought my race map along for the race. they din check that stringently and i didnt use it at all. now its a soggy piece of paper in my rubbish bin. (initially brought it along coz they said it was compulsory and i was sincerely worried about getting lost haha)
was hoping to keep it as a remembrance but wasted!~

race was really an eyeopener. have never seen so many runners with hydration packs before! and an amazing range of running attire/caps/sunglasses/pouches/shoes. super colourful! ^^ weight myself and my hydration pack (they werent that strict about this. i swear some ppl carry less than 1.5L of fluids). some easy stretching and then off we went.
race started at 7am for us. total of 176 teams signed up for the 100km duo open. 21 teams signed up for 100km duo women. less than 30 tried the 100km. total number of runners this year (including 50km duo) should be slightly less than 1200.

weather was good to us. abit of sun but not too hot or humid... yet. started the run at a good pace i felt. feeling really good all the way till 10~15km. din stop at the first water point. rifle range road was easy too... until we reached bukit timah. that hill was when i started walking. lost sight of alot of runners at the nature reserve coz the trail was something i've never trained for >< but nonetheless din experience any major problems, reached zhenghua park still feeling okay. by then sun was up so it was really really hot and humid in the forest trail.

after that cant rmb much. i know certain parts looked familiar coz i'd been there during sispec. chestnut trail was really narrow and had lots of bikers. made it to the waterpoint at mandai near the zoo. there's a name for it cant rmb. stop briefly at the waterpoint (~21km) before going into that area for the turn about and return route.
made a huge mistake there! did not fill my camelbak sufficiently. put that together with the heat and humidity plus myself being unconditioned to the difficult trail (why is it mostly uphill ><), was really suffering at around 25km when we climbed hill 265 (crappy name. i know). literally had to climb there were no foot paths up! i had to stop twice to catch my breath during the climb omg ><

first thing i asked the guy at the top of hill scanning our bibs was the distance to the next water point and he said 5km. !!! wanted to lie down and give up there and then. so freaking tired! and an overwhelming urge to just lie down and fall sleep for a while >< strange huh.
by another 500m i finished all my 100plus. no shade at all coz we've left the forest so the heat really sucked. could feel myself dehydrating, legs going weak, stomach super uncomfortable, heart rate remained high even though i was walking all the way. all the usual problems but worse! ><

then i met these brunei troops. i think they were there on exercise. i rmb one of them (think its a 1SG) looked at me and without me saying anything he offered me a drink from his water bottle. omg so freaking THANKFUL at that point i just kept saying thanks all over again. and while i was drinking the other soldiers helped fill my camelbak up with water from their own jerry can! that water really saved my life there i think. really unexpected help.

i mean, seriously anyone would have done the same thing (i hope!) if they see others in need. but having experienced it personally i felt so so so grateful. unbelievable. after that point i kept telling myself if i gave up i wouldnt be able to answer to that camelbak of water.

but really easy to say that now in the comfort of my home. i dunno how i made it to the next water point. almost on the verge of collapse when i reached. met kelvin there he was already enjoying a banana. i rmb my watch said 11:00am precisely and i told myself im not going to move another metre until 11:20. lol :) grabbed 100plus and a banana and just sat down at the curb for a good 20 minutes! it really helped and i felt much better afterward. managed to walk/jog the remaining distance back. and there was this girl also running at the same pace. we were pacing/overtaking each other all thru the last 20km it really helped i think :) thx whoever you are!

last difficult stretch was at singapore island country club. HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT. amazingly hot sun and ironically water all around us coz of the golf course's water bodies. there was a plus point though - its normal tarmac road so its back to familiar territory for me :) managed to overtake quite a few ppl there. then followed by the very last stretch of macritchie forest trail. the last bend was awesome when we saw macritchie reservoir in front of us. utter bliss! could tell from every runners' body language. from walking with heads sagging (actually more like limping/staggering) to a slow jog with heads up. awesome! had some energy left and my cramps din bother me much by then so i managed to finish at a good pace. i always love the finish of any race! that feeling of pure joy and achievement :)

the medal wasnt the best looking but whatever man it was hard earned.

got my medal (there were some NF ppl to put medals around our necks at the finish line lol), weighed myself again, met up wth kelvin, grabbed subway, bathed, bitched about the race, and we both agreed the 100km runners deserve utmost respect. we (the 50km runners) met a few of them on their return lap. all of us applauded each one we saw haha. and most of them replied with smiles or thumbs up or even encouraging words of their own. really superhuman mental willpower.

lost 1kg during the race even though i was drinking non stop. called a cab home and went to sleep :)

race results - 7 hours 40 minutes, 127th place :) our team came in 53rd! which was pretty decent i felt. would definitely have been better if i had done some training on trail routes.
total of 126 open teams and 14 women teams completed the 100km duo.

legs seemed to have recovered pretty well. i dont feel so tired anymore. next up is new balance real run! after that will be standard chartered marathon. also rather tempted to try the year end MR25 ultra-marathon! :) will see how things shape up :)

signed up for new balance real run. had to go to novena because online registration closed already >< but a good trip though! persuaded jasonpoh to run too. easy trouble-free sign up, spend about 10 minutes wondering about race route and how to get there so early in the morning. then breakfast at long john! took it as lunch since it was rather late.

went shopping. bought GU energy gel. and signed up for GnC member. its super hua suan for me i cant believe i didnt sign up earlier >< 15bucks for 2 years! and each time i buy a GU i get one free which means saving 4 bucks. just today alone me plus jason saved 12bucks total already lol :)

then more shopping! novena square is really sports haven huh. sports shop of every kind! and lots of them had a sale too :) Gola had like 50% off shoes wow. too bad designs not to my liking. and new balance had 30% for runners. i know being in army spoilt the new balance image coz we get their lower end product :p but the higher end new balance running shoes are really wow. pretty good design and pro looking. and really really expensive too ><

fila had really cheap shoes jason wanted but too bad the pair he wanted didnt have his size lmao.

after that straight to bishan was thinking of checking out the library first but then it was CLOSED. yup i totally forgot today's a public holiday. happy deepavali!
nua-ed in school before prac started. RI is infested with mosquitoes btw >< watched confessions of a shopaholic! finished it on the way home after rwinds. its a really good movie :) i cant believe one scene at the end almost made me tear.
oh yeah and RT didnt like that movie. typical. RT never likes such movies. and this is what they commented "This middling romantic comedy underutilizes a talented cast and delivers muddled messages on materialism and conspicuous consumption."

bloody self-righteous ppl. not all movies have messages hellooo. do these critics sincerely lead perfect lives, never indulge in spending (or any other so-called character flaws), donate half their salary to charity (really. so many comments online on how charity should have been included as a theme because the movie lead was too self-centered and shopped only for herself. you would think these critics never bought anything for themselves)

maybe im just being cynical. maybe they're truly angels and really never have a single selfish thought. maybe they actually really think of themselves as saints and perfect role models for the rest of humanity to follow.

maybe they expect every movie to end with a beautiful message about human perfectness and world peace.

human characters are flawed, thats what make each individual an individual human being. flaws defines who a person really is to a large extent. i thought becky did extremely well in the end given her circumstance. we strive for change and improvement, and sometimes we succeed sometimes we dont. thats life isn't it. important fact is we tried, and more often than not probably achieved something in between complete success and total failure.
"learning a lesson and turning over a new leaf" is like years outdated seriously why do ppl still expect it in every movie ><

anyway the beautiful scene. (clarinet playing softly in the background btw :p)
becky telling her father she would never allow him to sell his caravan to help pay her debts cause it just completely completely defines him. i was like ya! both dad and vehicle are out of the world totally unorthodox (crazy. check out his last dance scene). whatever becky's flaws she's definitely very observant and spot on usually (especially on fashion :p)

and then her dad went "nothing defines me. except you and your mother."

! the way he said it. so matter of fact. so simply. as though he believed it like nothing else in the world.

and this was the average family dad. retired, out-dated, old-fashioned, fat, couch potato. if everyone in the world had some of this guy in him, we would be living in happier times :)

oh yeah another scene i loved. when all the mannequins started moving and applauding becky. super amusing :) and it ended with him explaining why he bid so much. "its a desperately important scarf" :)
in fact each time the mannequin moved and talk its really funny. but would have been creepy in real life though :p

and to think i avoided CFT! just couple of days ago we ord soldiers were busking in glory of no-more-cft-for-us. haha the irony of it. in the end turned out they didn't need us. what a joke another classic example of inefficiency. called us down there and then they realise din need so many ppl! so the other 2 guys just wasted their trips there coz i proly volunteered myself hehe. awesome initiative-taking soldier!

and in the end didnt go in either was handing out chips >< but wanted to experience it one more time before ORD (and seeing how we woke up so early and made the trip there already!) borrowed a mask and went in :) and took off mask inside brings back memories from sispec when you had to say a load of stuff just to get out of the room :)

wow. basic instinct 2.

i resisted going to review sites before i watched it. now i've watched it and then i've read the reviews and im glad i watched it first. critics didn't like it one bit lol. maybe just maybe it was too similar to the first and there was less thrill/suspense? some ppl even suggested renaming it something else rather than call it BS2. hmmm

actually i thought this movie being named BS2 gives it a different.. flavour to it? no doubt it contained less suspense because we know who the killer is. but that makes it even cleverer i thought. we KNOW the identity of the killer, but the movie plays around with the evidence and characters' perception and doubt, and shows how clever manipulation of of human minds can be achieved. honestly if we were the ones in the movie rather than viewing it from outside (like a higher dimension lol) we'd probably be thinking believing suspecting as well. ppl who are overly sure of themselves or ppl who let emotions and passions rule their actions often get manipulated easily.

the character of catherine tramell was absolutely brilliant. so cool headed so rational, so intelligent and such a good reader and manipulator of other people. its makes her so omnipotent, its very spooky. and her favourite tactic seemed to be to allow herself to be of some suspicion and then clear her name with some clever cover up or perfectly logical deduction- and putting the blame on others at the same time. that actually causes the initial ppl who suspected her to clear whatever doubts they might originally (and correctly) have. maybe becoz they feel guilty about accusing the wrong person? their ego would not have them risk being wrong about the same person TWICE. human manipulation at its best. "mind-****ing" was the phrase the movie used.
an amazingly liar, but only on rare occasion does the explicitly tell a lie. mostly she allows others to form their own conclusions. so ppl who're too sure of themselves often come to the conclusions that she intended for them - the wrong one.

yes and of course the uses her powers of seduction, but imo thats her secondary weapon no matter how powerful it is. her best skill is still reading of others' character and personality and bending them to her will.

but everyone thinks its a porno show. oops ><

kinda remind me of palpatine. i feel most ppl (even some star wars fans sigh) have wrong perceptions of various aspects of star wars >< on the part about the rise of the empire, yes, palpatine was a crazy old power hungry insane corrupted sith lord, but the truth is, his rise from common senator to supreme chancellor had little to do with his dark Force powers. in fact he rarely used them i think. he climbed all the way up through clever reading of others around him - their strengths and weaknesses, their beliefs and ego and their greed, and manipulating them carefully to bend to his will. mostly by playing around with their egos he managed to get the right favours done at the right time. and tada slowly he was emperor.

i have a suspicion on how human ego is and will always be the ultimate downfall of mankind. have been expanding it in my thoughts for a few months now. will put it down into a full thesis (haha :p) when i have the time :)

street fighter: the legend of chun-li. that movie is one big waste of time. it sux. epic fail. nothing worth watching. yups kinda wasted 90 minutes of my life luckily i watched it while on duty anyway.

plot was rubbish and the characters were so lacking in depth. and since when is chun li white? lol. and chris klein sucked in his character big time. that bad-ass-good-cop role just ISN'T him.
and for a fighting show its unbelievably dull too.

a few movies i've watched the past few days when im on leave :) blonde and blonder, paul blart mall cops, code name the cleaner :)

heh its all the same type of movies in my opinion. harmless fun, enjoyable way to spend 90minutes. blonde and blonder is a dumb blonde movie, and its not ashamed about it (could tell from the fact its a movie with 2 blondes as mains. the more the merrier huh) movie critics probably wont like it (they never like blonde movies :p) but its quite hilarious some scenes. confusing plot and a james bond style boat chase towards the end.

both paul and the cleaner have the same plot. fat guy saves the world. i liked both :) both were funny movies like laugh out loud funny :)
for the record i think RT hated both. esp code name i rmb it got less than 5% :p and i actually liked that movie more. colonel bowman hahaha :) come on ppl dont be so serious when watching such movies
the use of segway scooters in paul blart was really an inspiration. rather original i dont rmb other movies using it so prominently :)

hm other movies.. basic instinct. very very good plot and sharon stone acted brilliantly. i love the way the director keeps playing with the audiences' minds, feeding little titbits of information here and there to mislead and misguide. got a little obvious towards the end i think. but they put the twist at the last 10 seconds of the movie. nice! :) the intense anticipation of what the characters would do next makes it quite an awesome thriller (= looking forward to BS2 maybe tmr

finished reading hyperspace by michio kaku and Einstein 1905: the standard of greatness by John S. Rigden (=

hyperspace is awesome. its rather old - first published in 1994 which by modern science time-line its like super outdated already :p 15 years old grandfather. but it explains hyperspace and higher dimensional concepts very well and its extremely enjoyable to read :) no wonder was a best seller when published. super creative and super imaginative when leading the reader on a crazy journey into higher dimensions :)

standard of greatness pays tribute to einstein's year of 1905 and his 5 miracle papers. a bit of background on each paper and their implications. a more difficult read but very informative and rather fact-based. not too boring though :) will come back to this book in the future. i dont think i fully digested it properly yet.

anyway paid fines for both books haha couldn't return them in time oops. wanted a few extra days to read. tried looking for them in borders but couldn't find >< must borrow from library again soon :)

currently reading miss leavitt's stars by George Johnson. totally have never heard of her and i doubt anyone EVER has heard of her >< she left few records, few notes, few letters, few signs that she even existed except that she discovered a relationship that helped measure the distance of the stars o.O even wiki has barely anything on her. this book doesn't have much either she left too little for a proper biography to be even written but its a good introduction to the developments in the field of astronomy at that time :) the book's rather thin should finish it soon

borrowed another one this is very ambitious looking though. the great beyond by Paul Halpern. only browsed thru the first few pages but it looks promising. its that kind of writing style i like - as though telling a story. not too much technical detail just enough basics for an average science person to understand. higher dimensions and in fact most theoretical physics is actual super interesting its almost like science fiction in real life. thats probably why its one of the few non fiction topics i actually read. definitely doesn't look too dry though thats the most important part seeing how thick it is :p probably gonna get fined for late return again though heh

bought time traveler's wife from borders! 25% discount plus 10% discount from jason's borders card so its quite worth it :) haven started on that either too many things to read recently. yeah and i ordered the syonan years from keith also. about time i brushed up my knowledge on history of singapore. most singaporeans know too little ><

predictable storyline. just good acting and very pretty actresses made this totally watchable. but its kinda unrealistic as well i guess. men like derek charles are just too perfect to be true. maybe they exist... but like one in a million? i sound so prejudiced against my own gender but i think its cold hard reality. and women should really hold on tight to men like him rather that doubt him like the movie lol.

watched legally blonde and space chimps. these 2 are movies which just gives the feel that somewhere sometime ago you've seen something of the same sort. but still both very good movies, both exceeded expectations.
though in all honesty i din expect much in the first place. especially legally blonde it turned out so much better than i expected. casting was perfect i thought Reese Witherspoon fitted the character like wow. its a movie with shallow characters and impossibly sugar-coated, fairytale-only scenarios but just a right measure of.. realness? think it worked out alright in the end :) shall try to watch blonde 2. reviews of it seem to suck but then again i never cared much for reviews anyway (=

space chimps also about the same in terms of the epic copycatness of the movie themes and overused scenes and puns already seen in every other similar movie (esp review sites like RT they grab such supposed "weaknesses" in movies and condemn it to eternal unforgivable hell with overly sophisticated remarks. sometimes i suspect some ppl post there with the sole intent of showing off their clever english laced with even cheemer sacarsm- to the extent i find it quite useful to pick up tips there =p)
but such movies are not meant to be watched with a cynical mind anyway its supposed to be ENJOYED like how all movies are supposed to be. which is a fact few ppl seem to grasp. dont analyse too much into it and you get an hour plus pleasant viewing of a movie with genuine warmth and silly harmless fun (=

i think the number of times you feel like *facepalming* during this movie is a good gauge of how much you've grown old.

impromptu rollerblading at east coast park :) nick, gu, roy, rayson, jason, me. second time in my life rollerblading lol. remember first time was some thingy at RI in sec 2 or something when the school organsed post exam activities. its quite similar to ice skating! a few degree difference in temperature only haha :P

falls still rather pain as usual like the ice. but wore guards so much better :) and much cheaper too heh. all us noobs there except nick haha. but learning blading is really exponential it gets easier and easier with each session. must go again soon :)

been a while again!
intercluster cross country at macritchie! initially felt like an arrow but din mind going. on hindsight it was a good run on a nice friday afternoon. lungs and legs could really use that exercise, and mind and body could do with a abit of relaxation at the reservoir before and after. and was a good little precursor to north face 100!
woo hooo haha was planning to run duo 50km with anrikyo but haven signed up yet and anrikyo din seem to keen. then sgt cher suddenly couldnt make it for his 100km duo with msg kelvin cause of his exam soo.. yups i think i should be able to take over pretty okily :)

must start training! (wahhahahaha de javu i distinctly rmb i said the same thing before sundown) 50km on totally unfamiliar terrain and unfamiliar territory. gonna be much more challenging than adidas sundown. but thats the whole idea right no point doing something easier than what i can do anyway :) at least i shall complete the race haha

cable ski at batam this saturday! gonna miss rwinds prac agai im so so sorry omgz. but hopefully batam will be fun :) and i hope i sill rmb how to swim when i drop into the water haha

first rwinds prac. feelt just like last year. the demoralising feeling where i seemed to have totally lost the feeling of playing a clarinet >< nothing to do with fingering or lack of breath. its just... that FEELING. not there anymore >< takes a few more pracs to get it back like last year hopefully :)

productive duty today :) watched disaster movie (terrible really. the only thing fun was trying to identify which movies were being made fun of haha), the reader (not bad. bit heavy though) and strictly sexual. strictly sexual is quite nice in the sense that it feels really like a real situation that can happen. no happy endings of the movie sorts.. just a "life goes on" sort of sombre reality. things in life arent always perfect but as things and events happen we should still try to live and cherish them even if it doesnt work out eventually. ppl should watch such movies occasionally. but occasionally would do, since movies should still be for entertainment and a generally nice way to spend 2 hours :)

yeah and finished reading The Void by frank close. frankly (hehe) din really understand most parts of the book its a little too abstract :p far too cheeem! but the more i read the more i understand why science and philosophy is so intertwined with each other.
but i think i kinda got a solution to my conservation of energy problem! ^^ must still go ponder a bit more over it though.

saw some news about how a japanese company made some wonder bodysuit which detects your brain signals and minute body movement to help with walking and general movement. so basically walking becomes literally effortless and the person wearing the suit is immensely strong. awesome! :)

the japs are full of innovations lol :p love how they always manage to come up with crazy but actually workable ideas that leave the rest of the world in awe.
but the point is, if some commercial company can come up with such a suit good enough to be sold to the public, what can a military research department backed by a military research budget come up with?? G.I. Joe not that unrealistic maybe :p

epiphany - feeling bad because i wasnt feeling bad about it

had an epiphany last night after reaching home from ndp preview. seet just got sent to hospital coz he dislocated his shoulder during preview. so while i was in camp i decided maybe i'll sms sj to let him know about it so he can prepare himself in case he's required to replace seet. and funnily enough the first reply i got was something along the lines of "ahhhh why! why seet always like that one!".
then when i reached home i told jason over fb. and his first reply was "wah good job now he has even more excuses to chao keng out of doing work already"

and BAM suddenly i knew what was bothering me since camp. i was feeling bad not because of the incident. i was feeling bad because im SUPPOSED to feel concerned about him getting injured, but i wasnt feeling anything then. hmm. i was feeling bad because my first reaction was similar to how those 2 were feeling also.

feeling bad because i wasnt feeling bad about it lol. maybe i should have understood how i was feeling earlier than this but was probably too caught up with the preview being screwed up so wasnt thinking very well.

such events bring up how your usual relationships with others are huh.

16km last friday proved something to me. or least 16km followed by ndp rehearsal the following day did. legs felt abit wobbly wearing the suit during 1st rehearsal but finished it and came back feeling just fine. not too bad leh i think! :) just one not too long year ago 16km would have left me bed ridden for the whole day haha :P

looking back its not really been easy. all along i was never a long distance runner. like NEVER. 400/800m was fine, 2.4 really challenging and anything beyond was torturous. even in sispec the 6km run at the end was like a crowning achievement like WOWWWW i actually can complete 6km o.O and during last year's ahm running 10km gave me new insights to the word shagness haha.

so when i signed up for sundown on impulse it was abit crazy now that i think about it haha. had like 2-3 months to coax my body into believing i can finish 42km even though for the past 19 years i've never run more than a quarter of that! :) wowz hahaa. meant it as a challenge personally and it turned out to be so much more. actually quite proud to have completed it. its easy for ppl to say aiya long legs what meant for running, but its not that simple i think. have long learnt to ignore that coz i find that most ppl who say that arent complaining about you. they're just looking for excuses for themselves. even if there's someone else with shorter legs and runs faster it'll be because that guy is "just crazy la" and "he's just a natural runner whatt". and it'll always be because "im just too tired" and "im just not a natural runner" and "there's no point what why you so extra" and stuff like that. no one ever admits its because "im too lazy" and "i lack willpower to put in more effort" and "i din want to try harder".
and i know because i used to be just like that haha :p just that i din have much excuses to hide behind coz i did have better body build for running ><

even now when i run long distances there's still this tiny voice in my brain that says "relax lets walk abit i cant take it already lets rest just a little while". and theres this other voice that says "NO lets not lets just continue". seriously its still not easy even now after so much training, but hey the first voice gets softer and softer the more i run. everyone fights this same battle i think. even henry and he's by very very far the best runner i know of. and still he tells me he has to push himself hard just to go for training runs. its a personal battle of willpower each time and winning it gives so much confidence and satisfaction. never thought i could do this before. and its not just about running also. its about everything else at the same time.
how a person go about his runs sometimes can tell you much about how a person's attitude is. thats what vincent always said and its actually quite true lol :)

signed up for stand chart and probably hopefully gonna run north face 100 with anrikyo. came quite a long way from last year already :)

august. i gotta stop this habit of blogging only once a month. not much probably happened since, and every saturday burnt at ndp rehearsals i guess. and a few more runs leading up to ahm. 2 more weeks!~

timor barat run was quite enjoyable my first ever 16km run. overall team placing of third and indiv 107th out of engineer formation and invited runners. quite ok i think. and third prize was a pair of socks each. yup socks. economy not doing well im afraid :p but ok to be fair it was a comfortable pair of socks haha. and after the run was some really unexpected show/talk/rubbish filled with extremely not funny sexual innuendos from some condom company about safe sex. like who the hell was in the mood after 16km. left about 2 minutes later nto go shop at the stores they set up. and FINALLY bought my first pair of running shoes ^^ and won a mouse pad also after playing some game with the BSM :)

oh and the shoe seller was quite nice he personally delivered the shoes i ordered all the way to changi chalet the following week cause we had our unit cohesion and i wasnt in camp. like wow impressive customer service :) oh ya and impressive chalet! scenic sea view.. or at least as scenic and sea views in singapore do get. can also see tekong holiday resort. seriously from far is REALLY looked like a nice resort ><

one more 16km out camp on friday. good route at pasir ris park i liked it :) and managed to finish in front of bsm phew (seriously at a mwo's age, 16km in 1:20++hrs is AWESOME. respect sia) and nicholas is still insanely fast haha. damns haha. after that wobbled to pasir ris mrt to take train home, and still had preview yesterday. sweet haha.

yesterday preview so some ppl required to go set up shop/recce the ground from our unit. jason claims the million dollar view is worth the thousand dollars paid haha. damns must find some way to visit :) and the exercise... ok shant comment i wasnt involved. but 1sg gu seems to have lots of comments about dua pao and similar stuff hahahaha

anyway preview was one effing major screw up. like almost on epic scale sigh. yeah and seet got sent to hospital after dislocating his shoulder from getting out the bus during the show. like how he did it i have no idea. time to change bus maybe *noddnodd* at least to one which the sliding door can be opened easily from the inside ARGHZZZZZ.

have not blogged in AGES! ^^ been um busy? probably lazy i think. time keeps passing by so quickly sighs. anyway i think i just did my last sweep today! *debates whether to put smiley face or sad face* and coincidentally at the place where i did my first sweep too! ^^ haha nice finishing closure i guess. and yes i conclude without doubt that toast box just isnt as nice as ya kun :) i shall miss having sweeps, the feeling of going to new places which normal ppl dont have access to and stuff like that just feels good. and of course all the eating sessions during sweep standbys haha :)

oh yeah watched ice age 3 with my sister. it kind of like didnt live up to expectations i think. or im just growing too old for such movies. gasps. no not possible haha :P maybe ice age got too stale for my taste already. but buck definitely saves the movie! hahah ^^ and the cute babies din hurt too i guess lol :P

oh yeah ndp rehearsal! finally had my first preview. its surprisingly not very stressful even with so many ppl watching. WHY DO THESE PPL ALWAYS GET TICKETS WHEN I DONT!. ok cools down. pics!

haven blogged in ages! fb is slowly replacing blogs its kinda sad. anyway just returned from adidas sundown! one crazy marathon ><

honestly 42km is just so totally different from a normal 5-10km run. in fact first 10km was pretty enjoyable since everyone was running on adrenaline and everything just seemed so easy :) 10-20 required a little bit extra will power. from 20km onwards thats when the cramps start and the body starts protesting, and it becomes a battle between your will and your body >< esp 30km onwards wah totally torturous. but we made it! :) think i took about 5 hours 15 minutes still waiting for the official time. now i just have to deal with abrasions and body fatigue for the next few days ><><><

nice medal and finisher's shirt! :) wah like type a few sentence marathon over already ya haha but i think besides the 28km route march in sispec this 5 hours plus were the most challenging in my life so far! >< but only difference is in sispec you have no choice so nvm just bo bian blindly follow wherever they were leading you keep walking and walking. but in a marathon you always had this very very tempting option to slow down and walk or stop and rest ><

so from 20km i was like keep trying to psycho myself "come on come on lets run abit more before i walk" and my body would be like "no no no we're too tired we need to rest now or the cramps will start blah blah". esp during after 30km all the overhead bridges like omg wo de tianz no idea how i got thru those. sheer willpower! ^^

hm oh yeah learnt something from this marathon. (AAR point! good soldier ^^) its actually ok to look back once in a while haha :) i know they always say dont look back just look at the present and focus on the all important future. but hey if looking forward you see 16km more, you could look back and say HA 26km done! not everyone can keep on going on and on de at some point in time you body will give in and your mental strength will wear out if you keep plodding on mindlessly. so looking back gives yourself quite abit of motivation to be honest. the whole marathon was just one long process or trying to motivate myself to carry on running :)

anyway after the marathon kian sin nicholas and i just sat down and STONED literally. like so damn too tired to do anything already haha. now i deserve a nice long recovery sleep :)

watched college. must have been the one of the worst movie i've ever watched. ok just make it the WORST. not becoz its lame and corny (but yes it is. its both in very generous amounts) but becoz of the blatant outrageous propagation of immorality and vulgarity and everything that is wrong with our society (ok at least the american society).

even without the strong language and explicit scenes (ha i sound so professional) it'd still earned its RA rating i think. all the characters trying to outdo each other to reach new depths in their lives. at least crappy movies like love guru was funny in a what-the-hell-am-i-watching kinda way (and it had jessica alba so yeahhh). or burn after reading made me laugh coz of the wtf feeling you get every 10 seconds. but THIS?! like omgz i cant believe this film was allowed to be made in the first place. blegzhz.

watched rules of attraction on psp its kinda a very strange movie. definitely not like what other movies offer its not teenage school (though it is set in a school) or comedy (maybe a really dark one) or chick flick (though there are good looking ppl). its quite a rather twisted a movie about 3 rather twisted drug-taking selfish shallow cheap human beings and their normal everyday circumstances. and their lives happen to meet. doubt its a movie which many ppl will love, but its quite a good watch. its a challenging movie not a movie for entertainment purposes :p

anyway went running today with ks! it was SUPER HOT at ECP like omgzzz hot. supposed to run like what 20km i doubt we even mange to hit 10 >< and on the way back it decided to rain. like good job man.

april fool passed, and not a single joke made in camp! we're all growing up haha. but its april already haha soon it'll be ord :) i like april. i think its because of the teenage textbook or workbook (cant rmb which one) and theres a phrase something like the passing of an april shower and i always rmbed it even though im not very sure now what it was haha :p

i need to visit more places like these before humanization globalization industrialization and whatever not rubbish destroys everything :)

hm oh yeah i watch city of ember finally! :) the concept was interesting though i dont know why those idiots stayed underground for 2 centuries blindly waiting for their food supplies to run out :p but i kept thinking about the final scene where the kids finally got out of the city ember full of hope for their future, but then suddenly realised that the world outside was as dark and gloomy as the stories had told. but they went to sleep and the next thing they knew they woke up to a sunrise in a beautiful world :) so yup haha sometimes it just happens that we arrive at our goal when its sundown without realizing that sunrise is just a few hours away. i think we all know this, but sometimes its easier to look at other ppl and forget these little things ourselves *nods wisely* :)

i haven been online for MORE THAN A WEEK >< didnt thought it was possible survive such a scenario in this time and age, but well i surprise myself all the time :) all started off last weekend when a stupid thunderstorm decided to fry my modem, and coincidentally the internet in camp decides to break down, so well suddenly im cut off from the world. GASP.
but actually adapted quite well just played alot of piano and patapon 2 :) patapon 2 is AWESOME! ^^ the original was already pretty darn good and this was so much better like every other person i know is playing. :)

oh and attended the westwind concert at esplanade last sunday they have really crazy wild crowd support. where got ppl go esplanade and start screaming right from the beginning its not even some yan chang hui or anything >< but the band itself was okayy not super good but almost pretty good already :) especially the brasses sounds. din like woodwinds esp clars >< and jacob de haan was good hehe very smooth flowy natural conducting style :)

afterwards ate at kuishinbo at suntec (like after after after wards coz we had to wai for yj's fren ><><) by the time we got there everyone was starving to death already and yj and jasmine were getting really worried it'll be full :p but oops no such luck sigh haha so had to eat there coz according to the wonder theories or yj and jasmine soft-shell-crab >>>>>>>>> guys. *looks hurt*
but ok la for a jap buffet i ate till i was bloated so ok not too bad i can take jap stuff as long as they're erm cooked :):) so guilty haven gorged myself for so long already, but hey i still prefer the greenhouse at ritz! ^^

yeah and the adidas marathon is looming out like REALLY close up now and i haven been doing much training! always so little time (though usually just so lazy oops). but hey as it gets nearer its easier to drag myself out of bed in the morning to run :) i love deadlines hahaha they're such wonderful motivators >< that day ran from home to bedok reservoir in the morning the view there is very very nice ^^ i shall somehow make it by may 30th! its been long since i had anything to really work towards haha :p much better than hanging around and erm serving the nation. wait wait. there can be no higher calling than serving your nation! haha such an awesome inspirational advertisement when i first saw it i really felt like wow! yeah! :p and omg heard alot of the new guys want to sign on coz the economy so bad outside :p

anyway anyone want to join me for saucony passion run at ecp in may! :p either 5, 10 or 15km only haha think it'd be a good idea to run that just before going for adidas! :) wah after the marathon MUST GO EAT FAST FOOD ^^

i decides that i like czech music! totally beautiful ^^ esp music which is about folklore or myth and legends, or rivers and mountains and stuff like that composed into an orchestra work :)

and i decide that im DEFINITELY not someone who can appreciate contemporary music :p dunno what on earth is going on haha! totally old fashioned when it comes to music :)

i think an orchestra sounds lovely with all the strings, but theres always like strange lag time or something o.O so the wind instruments always sound a little bit overly aggressive when they come in which isnt very often to be honest. but seeing all the strings bow up and down together is very nice haha :) a very erm soothing effect i think makes you want to sing along :)

went for a 10km run :) feels good as always after the run but whole body bones aching esp at the hips think my bone structure is too light to support long distance endurance training >< but i shall PERSEVERE ^^ and just tortured myself with a feet ice bath its supposed to help muscle recovery and alot of professional sportspeople do full body ice bath... BUT its wo de tian kind of insane feeling >< it better work!

oh saturday watched nick and norah's infinite playlist :) its rare that a teenage-life movie can be so meaningful usually they're just a hopelessly funny laugh-out-loud way to destress, but this one was quite genuinely good. as in the plot was very simple and the characters are definitely nowhere near perfect human beings (like how most teenage movies always contain one perfect girl or one perfect guy :p) but there's this sincere simplicity about the whole thing that makes the whole movie seem real and makes you want to continue watching to find out what'll they do next. awesome :)

watched valkyrie with jas and yh ^^ its strange watching a movie when you already know the ending (which i guess isnt all that rare nowadays coz of spoilers and movie reviews :p) but it still generated enough suspense and interest to keep you glued to know what will happen next :)

but anyway that valkyrie was a little too serious a movie so im watching my sassy girl english remake! :) read reviews about it before hand (oops :p) saying its nowhere near as good as the original korean version, but then i thought the korean was one of the best movie i ever watched so well :p
but ya it IS nowhere as good, probably coz it tried just too hard to be exactly like the original one but there's no same depth for some reason >< yup and also the original cast was so much more endearing.. this one is just too um americanised? :p but ok la some scenes are just too good to be missed even if they're reproduced (esp the piano one!! ^^)

anyway this weekend quite productive watched no reservations and sydney white. no reservations disappointed me, but im guessing its coz i had really high expectations of it coz of the nice name and plot synopsis. turns out to be about above average i think but it could have been so much more. sydney white was pretty good though :) its a little corny and lame (and nerdy and geeky and -.-) at times but oh well thats to be expected of this mondern day fairy tale genre movie overall its quite an enjoyable 1hour plus :)

feels so proud of myself! woke up at 5plus early in the morning today to go for a run before coming camp for duty! :)
and something nice happened i was making my way down the stairs very groggily and there was this guy delivering newspaper door by door and he said good morning to me so cheerfully :) then suddenly after i good morninged him back i realised im not so tired after all and the run was enjoyable ^^

anyway was reading some article just now and it says that our moon is moving away from the earth at 3.8cm per year! which means future generations will never get a chance to experience a full eclipse since the relative size of the moon will not be enough to block out the sun completely. and i was going awww so sad then i realised i haven seen an eclipse either oops :p

trip to sentosa! that place which brings back memories of.. im also not sure what :p hot hot sun and throwing ppl into the sea haha. unfortunately this time only me eugene miki xinyun and a not-say-very-late-only-about-5-hours-late wenhao :p today's weather was awesome though we had pretty blue sky and nice strong breeze which kept threatening to blow away our cards (yesyesyes we can compile a 101 places to play cards at already haha) kind of regret din bring any clothes din get go for a swim in the sea ><
flower exhibition started today also so the place was super crowded it required great skill to walk thru the crowd to siam everyone's camera lol. we took photos also! esp at the fountain there where its just so tempting so push someone in haha :p
yes and xy came with her famous sweator (ok la it got famous only at the last class outing when i proly predicted she'll wear it anywhere including sentosa :p) what a powerful foresight i have haha (:

oh and bought a nice survivor (singapore version -outshop, outplay, outeat) tshirt ^^

thursday was platoon cohesion dinner at ritz carlton greenhouse! its wo de tian expensive buffet but its just oh so delicious ^^ choices were quite amazing from salad to deserts. and their prawns (big, fresh and juicy!) and sashimi and beef slices and cod fish (this is REALLY awesome if you like fish)! their seafood choices really too much to choose from. and yesyesyes their desserts are so freaking sinful everyone got a tummy afterwards haha. though imo secret recipe has better (ok at least RICHER) cheesecakes. but MUST TRY THE ICECREAMS haha ^^
anyway think even after we stuffed ourselves silly, there were some dishes we din manage to try >< oh ya and of course service was excellent ambiance definitely is good :)

yup so if you have around 70 bucks to spare and feeling really hungry can give it a try :):)

awesome concert! with some screw ups here and there but still totally awesome ^^
ended up going hong kong cafe like last year for supper. good food and lousy service tsk. but we did manage to catch the second last train home! ok well at least me and eugene did :p

then today had bowling for btln cohesion (not safe sia only had 4 hours of sleep) now my thumbs aching arghz. went phin's for lunch with keith and jason coz we've always thought of trying it out :) its quite unexpectedly nice yay haha unexpected coz we see its always empty. anyway we were like "can we have the daily lunch special" and the guy just said oh we dont have it today (also dunno why actually din ask). so we were wondering wad to eat when he suddenly said he'll give us a free drink and soup of the day for every ala carte we order :):)

so turned out to be quite ok their beer battered fish and chips is super nice. quite unique actually the taste of it definitely different from manhatten or fishnco. and i totally ove the fries. its cheaper also (i think) esp with the soup and drink paid 16.40 if i rmb correctly. oh ya and the owner (at least i think its the ownder) is super informal jason asked for ice coffee instead of iced tea and he just said "hmmm yup ok but only for today ya" and he din charge extra lol. cool haha :)

watched bedtime stories! its like wow one of the best shows i've watched recently (and i've watched quite alot heh *promotes 27 dresses its super nice*). anyway its just so awesomely laugh out loud funny :) i just love shows which believe that there just perhaps maybe possibly are happy endings in the real world and we just have to go find them and make them happen :)

chicken cutlet pasta at cine was quite awesome also (so is soft shell crab pasta according to jasmine). so it just further troubles me when i wonder why some ppl would pay so much to go to eat at pastamania (or any other pasta places which call themselves restaurants then charge extra for it :p) when theres like just oh one or two hundred other places with better food and cheaper prices >< like hellloooo :p

anyway haven been to orchard in like ages i forgot how crowded it can get (wad economy downturn seriously) and how exciting bridge can be (ok not related to orchard). but dinner was hilariously stupid we spend half an hour walking around deciding wad to eat and in the end not eating. lol! bridge la haix then still kena chased by security guard

just came back from camp! like so dumb to my black shoes there so had to book in just to get them for the concert then book out again. feels so onz about the concert suddenly esp since tix sales this year are amazing we actually MIGHT just sell out :):):) but prac tmr means i cant go for food trail :( sigh. why liddat de.

Madagascar 2 is funny! :) would have been an awesome movie, but i keep getting this sneaky feeling that the director is trying to force feed us alot of family values >< makes it abit awkward sometimes not subtle enough la tsk.
